Fermi Large Area Telescope Performance after 10 Years of Operation

چکیده
The Large Area Telescope (LAT), the primary instrument for Fermi Gamma-ray Space (Fermi) mission, is an imaging, wide field-of-view, high-energy gamma-ray telescope, covering energy range from 30 MeV to more than 300 GeV. We describe performance of at 10 yr milestone. LAT remains well within specifications defined during planning phase, validating design choices and supporting compelling case extend duration mission. details provided here will be useful when designing next generation observatories.

Post-launch performance of the Fermi Large Area Telescope
The Large Area Telescope (LAT) onboard the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope started nominal operations on August 13, 2008, after about 60 days of instrument checkout and commissioning and is currently performing an all-sky gamma-ray survey from 30 MeV to above 300 GeV with unprecedented sensitivity and angular resolution. The LAT pre-launch response was tuned using Monte Carlo simulations and te...
متن کاملDark Matter Searches with the Fermi Large Area Telescope
The Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope, successfully launched on June 11th, 2008, is the next generation satellite experiment for high-energy gamma-ray astronomy. The main instrument, the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT), with a wide field of view (> 2 sr), a large effective area (> 8000 cm2 at 1 GeV), sub-arcminute source localization, a large energy range (20 MeV 300 GeV) and a good energy resol...
متن کاملPulsar Simulations for the Fermi Large Area Telescope
Pulsars are among the prime targets for the Large Area Telescope (LAT) aboard the recently launched Fermi observatory. The LAT will study the gamma-ray Universe between 20 MeV and 300 GeV with unprecedented detail. Increasing numbers of gamma-ray pulsars are being firmly identified, yet their emission mechanisms are far from being understood. To better investigate and exploit the LAT capabiliti...
متن کاملSearching for Dark Matter Annihilation from Milky Way Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies with Six Years of Fermi Large Area Telescope Data.
The dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies (dSphs) of the Milky Way are some of the most dark matter (DM) dominated objects known. We report on γ-ray observations of Milky Way dSphs based on six years of Fermi Large Area Telescope data processed with the new Pass8 event-level analysis. None of the dSphs are significantly detected in γ rays, and we present upper limits on the DM annihilation cross ...
متن کاملFermi Large Area Telescope Observation of a Gamma-ray Source at the Position of Eta Carinae
The Large Area Telescope (LAT) onboard the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope detected a γ-ray source that is spatially consistent with the location of Eta Carinae This source has been persistently bright since the beginning of the LAT survey observations (from 2008 August to 2009 July, the time interval considered here). The γ-ray signal is detected significantly throughout the LAT energy band (i...
